What is Salisbury’s Risk of Flood Damage?
1/11/2022 (Permalink)
This will be the most important map you see for the next three hours.
Floods can be some of the most sudden, destructive natural disasters, especially since they’re not as much a regional occurrence as hurricanes or tornadoes. Anywhere there is water, whether it’s a river, lake, or creek, a flood can happen.
But you may not need to get all worked up and afraid–you may not even be at risk! Salisbury has only a few areas that are susceptible to flood damage, and has only a mild risk in the rest of the town. If you’d like to see what the risk is where you live, follow this link: Salisbury Flood Map. You can put in your address and select the layers you want to see to find out what floodplain you’re in, where the flooding goes, and how deep the flooding has been within the past year, hundred years, and five hundred years.
Turn off Your Pipes for Winter!
11/21/2021 (Permalink)
It's still a liquid...
FOR NOW!
Winter is coming! That’s not us using a trademarked motto from a controversial TV series, it’s us issuing a warning! With winter comes cold temperatures (this is high-level stuff--grab a pen!) and cold temperatures bring frozen water. For all you science buffs out there, when water freezes, it expands. Since metal only expands when it’s heated, your pipes will end up rupturing, spraying frigid water all throughout your house, making a mess of things.
If that already happened, call SERVPRO of North Rowan at (704) 925-1019 and we can come clean up the damage.
If it hasn’t happened yet, go turn off those pipes! It’ll take a few minutes, and you’ll thank yourself later. Just wait for a commercial break during the big game and run out and handle things.
Now don't say I never did nothing for ya!
Unseen effects of Water Damage: Mold
10/13/2021 (Permalink)
You're likely not dealing with this sort of mold, unless your house is dangerously delicious.
If your home has been damaged by water after a storm or a burst pipe or a plumbing mishap, you likely are well-aware of the stains on carpet, the warped floors, and the stench, but one thing you might be neglecting is the mold growing in hidden corners of your home. Large amounts of standing water both before and after evaporating will help give mold the moisture needed to thrive. Some mold smells awful, some mold is mild, but they’re all NOT fun to deal with in your home.
When it comes to mold, time is of the essence. Our SERVPRO Franchise Professionals will be at your house in a matter of hours and will assess the damage and predict where mold is likely to grow, and nip it in the bud before it becomes a big problem.
Remember--an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and it’s much better for you to keep mold from growing after a water leak than to get rid of it after it’s already taken purchase in the corners of your basement.
Regardless of how far along your mold is, however, remember that SERVPRO of North Rowan will be there to help you clean up your home and make it safe, comfortable, and “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO of North Rowan County/Salisbury is Here To Help when water damage strikes.
Causes & Categories of Water Damage in Rowan:
An old poem has the line, “water, water, everywhere”. When you need to say this in your home or office, you know there is trouble. You may be looking at water damage. There are several different possible causes of water damage in Rowan.
Causes can include:
- Leaky dishwashers or washing machines
- Clogged pipes
- Leaking roofs
- Broken toilet pipes
- Heavy rain
- Snow or ice
The amount of water damage depends on the amount of water and on the cause of the damage.
It is also important to start the cleanup as soon as possible. The longer your home or business is water-logged, the more damage.
Categories of Water Damage in Rowan:
- Clean water. It might come from an overflowing sink or a broken appliance. The water does not pose a threat to people. Keep in mind that any water will become contaminated after it stops flowing.
- Gray water. This water is contaminated from the get-go. It comes from broken toilets or sump pumps. It might not look dirty, or it might be brown.
- Black water. Like gray water, it might not look dirty. One major source of black water is broken sewage pipes. Another source is any water that has been standing still.

Rowan County residents rely on us to mitigate water damage!
A Lake in My Kitchen?
Every night before I go to bed, I run the dishwasher. I knew my dishwasher was getting old, but I thought it had a couple more years of life left. But the next morning, when I came downstairs to make coffee, I walked into an inch of water that was covering my entire kitchen floor. I tried to get as much water up off the floor, and even though it was early in the morning, I called SERVPRO® of North Rowan County/Salisbury.
The SERVPRO team arrived quickly to my Lockland home. While one technician assessed the damage and took moisture readings with an infrared camera, the other technicians immediately began the cleanup process. They extracted the water and set up air blowers and air movers to remove all of the excess moisture from the cabinets, baseboards, and floors. They determined that the leak was caused by a cracked water line hose on my dishwasher and repaired the hose. Flooded Basement in Salisbury, NC
11/13/2020 (Permalink)
This Salisbury home’s basement flooded due to heavy rains.
A basement can flood at any time, although flooding most often occurs during heavy rainfall. Basements are inherently prone to flooding because they are the lowest level of a building and are normally built partly or entirely below ground level. There are a number of reasons why your Salisbury basement could flood, including:
- A blocked or failed sewer lateral pipe
- Heavy rain causes surface water to pool around your home
- Storm sewer backup
- Sanitary sewer backup
- Foundation drainage failure
- Water supply-line break or hot-water tank failure
- And many more
If flood water is not handled quickly and properly, it can jeopardize your health and safety, and cause severe damage to your home’s structure. Remember, the longer you wait, the worse the problem will get.
The bottom line: a flooded basement can jeopardize your health, safety, and your home’s integrity. It’s worth making a call to SERVPRO of North Rowan County/Salisbury and let our trained, professional crews handle the situation safely and correctly.

A Small Leak Could Be A Big Problem
7/6/2020 (Permalink)
Don't wait and let a small leak cause a big problem.
There’s no such thing as a small disaster, especially when a small leak now can blossom into a big insurance claim later. Unseen water can soak through walls, seep through carpet and pool on subfloors, causing major problems over time. Instead of trusting untrained eyes, help ensure the value of your property and minimize damage by calling SERVPRO of North Rowan County/Salisbury. We have the equipment, training and experience to find and dry unseen water before secondary damage sets in. We help small leaks from becoming big problems. Here’s an overview of some of the areas of your property that may be affected by a small leak:
The water damage that you see in your home is a wet surface, most likely a puddle on the carpet. But what you don’t see is that the carpet pad that is under it is completely saturated. It can continue to seep under the baseboards and into the drywall. From there, the water can do further damage to the insulation, as well as the wall stud, and even the sheathing. After the water saturates the carpet pad, it will start to damage the subfloor. If there is a significant amount of water or if it sits unattended for a long period of time, it could potentially damage the floor joists and leak into the basement or damage the foundation. What appeared to be a small problem is a much larger one. Because it’s the water you don’t see that causes the most damage.
When our SERVPRO technicians arrive at your property, they will identify the source of the loss and the type of water. Next, they measure the temperature and humidity to use in the calculations for drying analysis. In order to be thorough, a survey is done to determine the extent of the damage and inspect the premises for hidden moisture. SERVPRO crews will be sure to move any contents from the area as well as block any furniture to avoid any further damage. They will perform emergency water extraction and remove any saturated debris like the carpet, carpet pad or subfloor and drywall if necessary.
So remember to call the professionals at SERVPRO of North Rowan County/Salisbury at 704-925-1019 when you experience any leak.

Three types of contaminated water
6/1/2018 (Permalink)
Call SERVPRO of North Rowan County/Salisbury
There are three major types of contaminated water. SERVPRO of North Rowan County/Salisbury will inspect that contaminated water to determine the type of water and then plan the appropriate response to safely restore your home or business.
The three types of contaminated water:
Category 1: "Clean Water"
This is water from a clean source, such as a broken clean water supply line or faucet. If left untreated, category 1 water can quickly degrade into category 2 or 3 water depending upon such factors as time, temperature, and contact with contaminants.
- Water from a clean source like a broken water line
- If left untreated, can degrade into category 2 or 3
Category 2: "Gray Water"
This water has a significant level of contamination that could cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Sources for category 2 water may include washing machine overflow; toilet overflow with some urine, but no feces; or dishwasher overflow.
- May contain bacteria and viruses
- Can quickly degrade into category 3 if left untreated
Category 3: "Black Water"
This water is grossly unsanitary and could cause severe illness or death if ingested, and any contact should be avoided. Sources for category 3 water could include flooding from rivers or streams, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth.
- May contain untreated sewage, harsh chemicals, and microbes
- Water from flooding rivers or sewer backup
We are the water damage restoration specialists with specific training and expertise to safely restore your home or business.
