Mold Growth in Mill Bridge?

Mold in MY house?
It was time to redecorate the guest room in my Mill Bridge home. There has always been a musty smell in that room, and I thought some new paint and furniture would eliminate the odor. An area of the wallpaper was already separating from the wall by the floor, so I started pulling the wallpaper off from there. A strong, musty smell immediately hit me, and then I saw what no one wants to see: mold! Lots of it. It had been growing behind the wallpaper!
I called SERVPRO® of North Rowan County/Salisbury, and they gave me some tips to follow until the mold remediation technicians arrived:
What to do:
- Stay out of affected areas.
- Turn off the HVAC system and fans.
What NOT to do:
- Don’t touch or disturb the mold.
- Don’t blow air across any surfaces with visible or suspected mold growth.
- Don’t attempt to dry the area yourself.
- Don’t spray bleach or other disinfectants on the mold.
I learned that mold spores float around in the air, waiting for moist conditions and food sources to be present, and once they are, the mold can grow very rapidly. Because the spores are always present in the atmosphere, mold can never be completely eradicated, but it can be mitigated and controlled.
